Moment rotating

Selection of the material model is another important factor to be considered. Some programs allow the user to specify plastic moment-rotation curves for beam elements. However, the more rigorous and most widely available method of defining nonlinear material properties is to specify the stress versus strain data, Plastic behavior is approximated at the section level in the former method whereas, the latter method tracks plastic behavior at the individual integration points (fibers) through the thickness of the member. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. [Pg.183]

Magnetic particles in a solution undergo two types of relaxation Brownian relaxation, in which the entire particle rotates, and Neel relaxation, in which the moment rotates while the particle remains still. The Brownian relaxation time xB is... [Pg.465]

In their 1978 analysis, Pearlstein and Hemenger [16] presented two sets of theoretical results, one of which is remembered and the other not. The former comes from a nonstandard approach in which each Qy dipole is assumed to be rotated 90° in the plane of its BChl macrocycle relative to the direction assigned [27] by molecular orbital theory. This single assumption virtually solves all of the anomalies just noted, except for the overall red-shift. However, this striking finding has not led anywhere, because so far no physical basis for such a rotation of electronic transition moments has been proven. Nonetheless, there may be a kernel of truth in the transition-moment-rotation hypothesis (see below). [Pg.308]

It is important to note that this is half of the pair potential that is expected for the interaction of an ion with a molecule having a permanent dipole moment (rotating) similarly aligned [V(r) = —aE2, compare with Equation (34) in Section 2.4.1]. Since some energy is taken up in polarizing a molecule to induce a dipole moment rather than having a permanent dipole moment, it is reasonable that a weaker pair potential is obtained for the interactions between ions and induced non-polar molecules. [Pg.36]

The design moment resistance, Mj and initial rotational stiffness, of the connection are determined from equations adopted from Eurocode 3, Part 1-8. With the presence of both design moment resistance and initial stiffness, the moment-rotation (M-R) curve can be plotted by using equation 1. [Pg.307]

Five tests on frame sub-assemblies have been conducted to study the behaviour of web cleated connections made of pultruded section. Full-size beam-to-column connections were tested to failure. Four of them were made by bolting but in one specimen bonding alone was used. The test method gave indicative results on the moment-rotation response of each connection in a frame. Results are used to provide simple design guidance for nominally pinned connections. [Pg.603]

Piece-wise linear moment-rotation curves for the five connections in Table 1 are shown in Figures 4 to 8. The results plotted are for the connection in each test that failed first. The term Left or Right is used to distinguish between the two connections in each specimen (reference 10). In the figures the response plotted is that recorded at least 5 minutes after the application of the moment or rotation increment. For a moment,... [Pg.608]
