Fertilizer molybdenum

Lucerne and cauliflower grown on European Muschelkalk and Keuper weathering soils without molybdenum fertilization suffered from molybdenum deficiency (Zabel and Bergmann 1957, Trobisch and Germar 1959, Trobisch 1966, Anke 1960, Anke et al. 1960, Bergmann 1959, Brandenburg 1960). [Pg.1012]

Molybdenum fertilization increases the drought resistance of plants by maintaining a higher degree of hydration of cell colloids (Vasil eva and Startseva, 1959). The effect is ascribed to the higher contents of total N and protein N and starch in Mo-sufficient plants. Molybdenum deficiency decreases the resistance of plants to stresses such as low temperature and waterlogging (Vunkova-Radeva et al., 1988). [Pg.64]

Molybdenum fertilizers can be applied broadcast or in bands incorporated into the soil. Because the amounts of Mo required are so low, molybdenized P or NPK fertilizers generally are used to add volume and thus provide a more uniform Mo application to the field. These products are made by spraying a soluble Mo source onto the fertilizer in the granulation process or by adding the Mo source to the acid used in the manufacture of the fertilizer. Because these Mo sources do not react with the components of the fertilizer, the availability of Mo to plants is not affected. There is also evidence that Mo uptake by plants is enhanced by... [Pg.172]

Molybdenum fertilizers are discussed elsewhere in this volume and will be discussed only briefly here. In the majority of the studies cited in this chapter, Na2Mo04 -2H20 was the Mo source most commonly used for experiments. Murphy and Walsh (1972) reviewed Mo fertilizers and their rates and application methods. The methods, sources, and rates of application for all cited studies that showed positive yield responses are... [Pg.192]
