Molecules Symmetry Elements and Operations

The three-dimensional symmetry of a molecule can be described by elements and operations  [Pg.101]

1 A symmetry element is the point of reference (a point in space, a plane, or an axis, for example) around which the symmetry occurs. [Pg.102]

A symmetry operation is the rearrangement of atoms around a symmetry element. [Pg.102]

A molecule can possess five symmetry elements, about which symmetry operations can be performed  [Pg.102]

In this section, I walk you through each of them. [Pg.102]
