The observation of d-orbitals is not the only information obtainable from UPS spectra, nor probably the most important, since a P.E. spectrum is a display showing at the same level of evidence and detail the system of all the energy levels corresponding to all molecular orbitals of the valence shell of a volatile coordination compound, the d-based as well as the ligand-based orbitals. It has therefore the merit of showing with utmost evidence the arbitrariness of focussing the investigation on the d-shell...
