Molecular gearbox

A further development introduced a 2,6-dimethylphenyl group at the 2-position of the thioxanthene unit as a rotor designed to control the isomerization about the alkenic bond. The compound has been likened to a molecular gearbox (Figure 60) <1997JOC4943, 20050BC4071>.
