Modulus resistance

Special, uv-curable epoxy resins (qv) for substrate disks for optical data storage (Sumitomo BakeHte, Toshiba) excel by means of their very low birefringence (<5 nm/mm) and high Young s modulus. Resistance to heat softening and water absorption are similar to BPA-PC, but impact resistance is as low as that of PMMA. [Pg.162]

Hybrid polymers are composites containing one organic component (e.g polymer) and another part, distinct in nature to the matrix (e.g. the nanomaterial), and these parts interact through chemical bonding so that the polymer layer bonded to the filler is distinct from the polymer matrix. The properties of these materials are improved by the introduction of the nanomaterial into the polymer matrix. Some of the properties that can be enhanced include the Young s modulus, resistance to flammability, low permeability to gases, and increased heat resistance. [Pg.85]

Polyhydroxyalkanoates and polyhydroxybutyrate in particular may be considered as rather controversial polymers. PHB is sometimes referred to as a material that appeared too early, before its time has came. To summarize, PHAs are prepared from renewable resources and are fully biodegradable. They outperform most of the other biodegradable polymers and many synthetic plastics in properties, notably mechanical strength and modulus, resistance to water and moisture due to high hydrophobicity, high crystallinity and several other physical properties such as barrier behavior or piezoelectricity. [Pg.315]
