Modification of the interfacial film

Other effects that have been reported, such as the positive effect of adding a cobalt metal-organic adhesion promoter to the rubber compound, have been shown to be related to modifications of the interfacial sulphide film. [Pg.429]

The three SAM films employed in this work contributed to the modification of the interfacial frictional properties of the sliding contacts of elastomer/rigid substrate in two... [Pg.82]

With these considerations in mind, the development of fabrication methods permitting to finely tune materials properties, based on the control of the adsorption kinetics of polymer chains onto a supporting substrate (thin films, nanocomposites, nanotubes, nanospheres,) could be explored. Noteworthy, this type of processing does not require a modification of the interfacial chemistry. The previous examples, in fact, show the feasibility of modifying the properties of a thin polymer layer without changing its thickness or its supporting substrate. [Pg.114]

In another study Arias et al. showed that a vertical phase segregation could be induced in thin films spin cast from F8BT PFB blends by interfacial modification of the PEDOT PSS layer with SAMs [241]. To introduce the SAM, the PEDOT PSS layer was first modified by oxygen plasma treatment leading to... [Pg.49]

The second approach is understanding how the emulsions natural stabilizers and their environment can be modified to augment destabilization. This is addressed by a description of the interfacial architecture of the emulsions in terms of how the structure may be first understood and then destabilized by probing the pseudostatic film behavior. This is followed by a description of dynamic properties of the interdroplet lamella, and thin-film behavior with and without demulsifiers. In all these systems the modification of the chemistries of the indigenous surfactants at the interfaces together with the dispersed water chemistry are suggested as tools that may be used toward destabilization. The effects of temperature and heat are addressed briefly. [Pg.542]

Thus, the discussions that follow include several important factors. These are that (1) the activity of interfacial components is involved in the structure of the protective skin (2) the behavior of this structure changes with water chemistry or solvency due to mass transfer and interfacial dissipation effects (3) the changes in structure may be due to modification of the relative proportions of components and (4) for understanding stable films and as a means of measuring demulsification, one may adapt the new developments in interfacial rheology as tools. These are all factors considered in past studies and which are described in flie following sections. [Pg.554]
