These are often considered together by Marx, as in the long section in the Crundrisse on "Forms which precede capitalist production". From the present perspective, their most important common feature is the stagnation of the productive forces. In Capital I Marx writes that "The technical basis of modem industry is therefore revolutionary, while all earlier modes of production were essentially conservative." In a footnote he then dtes a passage from the CommunisI Manifesto ... 

It has been the aim of the aathois, in writing the present treatise, to place before the reader a irly complete and jet a dear and succinct, statement of the facts of Modem Chemistij, whilst at the same time entering so far into a discussion of Chemical Theory as the size of the wori and the present transition state of the sdence permit. As an instance of thi the authors may refer to the chapter on the Maou cture of Sulphuric Add.
