The involvement of zinc as a Lewis acid catalyst in LADH has been previously suggested by many investigators 1,4,5,252,291,365-368). A model compound for this reaction has been prepared and found to catalyze hydrogen transfer from the alcohol to a nicotinamide ring 368). Only recently, however, has strong evidence been obtained that the substrate binds directly to zinc and that the active site zinc mediates electrophilic catalysis (Section 11,1,2). [Pg.169]
