Modal melting. Solid phases melt in the same modal proportion in which they occur in the initial solid, so that the modal composition of the residual solid remains unchanged throughout the process. 

In a study of ballistic properties of a three-modal composite rocket propellant, the effect of coarse, medium and fine fractions of ammonium perchlorate on burning rate at 70 bar and 25 °C has been mathematically modeled. Limitations were imposed on the ratios of all three granulations of ammonium perchlorate xrfine fraction AP-7 pm=0.3-0.7 x2-coarse fraction AP-400 pm=0.0-0.40 x3-medium fraction AP-200 pm=0.30-0.70.

This study is based on the integrated analysis of 211 m of cores taken from two oil wells (AB-1 and AB-2) in the Albacora Field (Fig. 1). A total of 170 thin sections were selected for detailed petrographic investigation of the carbonate cements 54 of these were selected for modal compositional analyses by counting of 300 points per thin section. Sampling was representative of the cored intervals. The carbonate cements were stained with a solution of 0.15% HCl, 1.0% potassium ferrocyanide and 0.1% alizarin red-S in order to determine Fe distribution. The cathodoluminescence of the cements was examined through a TECHNOSYN luminoscope. 

The modal composition of the acoustic emissions released into the hot gas duct was determined also. Fig. 29 shows the modal compositions measured at different pressures and temperatures during the trial run.

The knowledge of the modal composition in sound fields including the magnitude and phase angle enables the calculation of the total spatial distribution of the sound pressures. Using the developed calculation procedure, the dynamic response of the circuit insulation resulting from the excitation by the sound field can be calculated.

Fisher (1975) developed a simpler approach, which solves eqs. (1.1) and (1.4) at zone boundaries only. This procedure, as modified below, will predict the same bulk composition and relative volvime for each zone in a structure as the more exact approach, but it will ignore any variation in modal composition within zones. If these variations are important, one of the more exact approaches should be used, but in many metamorphic structvires, the reaction zones are nearly uniform in composition, and the simpler approach will be sufficiently accurate. I will use it here.
