MMP-Induced Exposure of Internalization Moiety

Low molecular weight protamine (LWMP) is a powerful cellular uptake enhancer but its lack of specificity limits its use for cancer cell selective internalization of nanocarriers [122]. This was recently addressed by Gu et al. with paclitaxel-loaded 

PEG-poly(e-caprolactone) block copolymers where the positive charge of LMWP is selectively unmasked after MMP-mediated cleavage in glioblastoma tumors in vivo resulting in superior therapeutic activity over untargeted nanoparticles or Taxol [ 123].
