Mineralization of dalapon

Dalapon is a small, water-soluble aliphatic compound that is completely degraded to inorganic compounds (is mineralized) by microorganisms in soil, probably after some adaptation of the microflora. 

Trichloroacetic acid (CCl3COOH) is also mineralized, but at a slower rate. Note that such compounds may contaminate groundwater. The number of microorganisms in groundwater is low, and thus after-leakage degradation will be much lower.
