Interestingly, local anisotropies in dielectric materials can be probed and imaged by using a rotating rectangular waveguide which emits linear and polarized microwave radiation. The rotation modifies the relative orientation of the electric field vector, such that dielectric anisotropy will result in a modulation of the measured effective reflection.
