A mixture of equimolar amounts of 2,2 -methylenebis-(4-chlorophenol) and di-chloroacetic acid vigorously stirred and refluxed 30 hrs. with excess K-carbonate and some K-iodide in isopropanol, cooled, an additional mole didiloroacetic acid added, stirring and refluxing resumed for 60 hrs. 2,10-didiloro-12H-dibenzo-[d,g][l,3]dioxocin-6-carboxylic acid. Classification A mildew and rotproofing emulsion containing 2,2 -methylenebis (4-chlorophenol). 

The 2,2 -methylenebis (4-chlorophenol) active material is a well established and accepted fungicide for this type of ap-pilcation and is required in a great many U.S. government and foreign government specifications for treating military textiles.
