MBT (methylene-bis-thiocyanate) [II, 20.9.1.]. As a water-soluble thiocyanate, MBT has limited use as a wood preservative although it has been extensively used in combination with TCMTB as an antisapstain compound. The use of this molecule in the field of antisapstain has been reviewed by Williams (1987), who found it to be highly diffusible when applied to the sapwood of recently felled timber. This diffusability has more recently been utilized in formulations to protect logs of radiata pine from sapstain development when exported from New Zealand (Chittenden et al. 2001).
