4-methyl-2-oxazolemethanol derivatives

For example, 4-methyl-2-(trimethylsilyl)oxazole 1005 readily reacts with aldehydes to yield 4-methyl-2-oxazolemethanol derivatives 1009 after desilylation. Aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes are useful in this reaction. In addition, modest diastereoselection was observed with chiral aldehydes, such as glyceraldehyde acetonide and 2-phenylpropanal. Examples are shown in Table 1.75.
