To confirm the production of benzene from the decomposition reaction of methyl(triphenylmethyl)dichlorosilane, the decomposition reaction of methyKdi-phenylmethyl)dichlorosilane in the presence of aluminum chloride was carried out in toluene solvent at 80 C. In this reaction, the exchange reaction between phenyl groups on the methyl group of (diphenylmethyl)(inethyl)dichlorosilane and toluene occurred to give [phenyl(tolyl)methylJ(methyl)dichlorosilane and (di-tolylmethyl)(methyl)dichlorosiIane (Scheme 1). In the reaction with ferrocene, allyldimethylchlorosilane reacts at 0 °C, allyl-(methyl)dichlorosilane reacts at the reflux temperature of methylene chloride, but allylsilanes containing two or more chlorine substituents at the silicon do not give alkylation products. In alkylations of ferrocene, allyldimethylchlorosilane shows the highest activity, allyl(methyl)dichlorosilane is less reactive, and allylsilanes containing two or more chlorine-substituents at the silicon have no activity. Allyl-trimethylsilane reacts with both benzene and ferrocene to give allylsilylation products but no alkylation product.

Seyferth and coworkers9,10,47 50 devised an alternative synthesis based on the use of methyl dichlorosilane. This is shown in reaction (14). 

A similar reaction to that described above (Eq. 7) occurs also with chloromethyl(methyl)dichlorosilane (12) (Eq. 10).41 The reaction leads to a tautomeric equilibrium which interconverts a pentacoordinate with a hexacoordinate complex. This topic is discussed separately in Section III.A.6.

The ammonolysis of other alkyldichlorosilanes has also been realized. Thus, the reaction of diethyldichlorosilane with liquid ammonia produces hexaethylcyclotrisilazane and octaethylcyclotetrasilazane. The reaction of methyl-dichlorosilane with liquid ammonia also proceeds rapidly to yield high-molecular-weight silazanes from which no simple compounds have been obtained.8...
