Methodology for development

CCPS has developed guidelines for the measurement of PSM performance that provide useful ideas on measurement. Their approach for developing performance measures integrates Quality Management with a well-tested methodology for developing measures based on mathematical algorithms derived from expert assessment of system performance. Section 6.2.3 is called Total Cost Assessment Looking at All the Costs Involved with a Decision. Traditional decision-making typically focuses on direct and indirect costs that appear on the balance sheet. The TCA model defines three additional cost types, contingent liabilities and internal and external intangibles. A methodology for developing total costs related to environmental impacts is discussed.

This forms the basis of appearance profile analysis (APA) which can be used to catalogue logically such properties (Hutchings 1999). The technique can be used to define and understand product appearance, as well as customer response to appearance. It provides the methodology for development of designer products and the scientific basis upon which product appearance development can be promoted. 

There were no human or animal studies suitable for developing MRLs for intermediate- or chronic-duration exposures to Stoddard solvent in the air. However, more serious health effects would be predicted with longer duration exposure. There are no oral studies in either humans or animals.
