Methacryloyloxyethyl-type monomers

MAOFU was polymerized in the presence of AIBN, and the results are shown in Table 2. The polymerizability of MAOFU was almost comparable to that of the other methacryloyloxyethyl-type monomers containing thymine (MAOT) and adenine (MAOA) [29-31], The resulting polymer, polyMAOFU, was colorless, amorphous, and soluble in DMSO, DMF, and pyridine. [Pg.111]

Homopolymers of methacryloyloxyethyl-type monomers containing 5-FU, thymine, or adenine were very stable toward acids and bases, while their hydrophilic copolymers were found to be degraded in aqueous solution under mild conditions to give the derivatives of purine and pyrimidines. The derivatives released from the copolymers were identified by UV spectroscopy as N-hy-droxyethyl derivatives of 5-FU, thymine, or adenine after isolation by preparative TLC. This means that the ester groups of the polymer side chains were hydrolyzed in aqueous solution. [Pg.116]

Complex formation between RNA and water soluble copolymers obtained in the copolymerization of methacryloyloxyethyl-type monomers containing nu-cleobases with water soluble monomers was also studied. Mixing curves between copolymers and between copolymers and RNA are shown in Figs. 14-16. The interaction between poly(MAOFU-co-AAm), poly(MAOT-eo-AAm), or poly-(MAOA-cn-AAm) with RNA was observed, as shown in Fig. 14. The overall stoichiometry of the complexes was about 1 1 and the hypochromicity was about 2% for the copolymer-RNA system under the conditions used. The observed interaction was not as strong as for the poly(VAd)-RNA system and poly(MAOA)-poly(MAOT) system [64], since the solubilizer, AAm, in the... [Pg.130]

Polymeric betaines or zwitterions are polyampholytes whose oppositely charged groups remote one from another are displaced on one pendant substituent. There are several types of monomers with a betaine structure carboxy-betaines, sulfobetaines and phosphobetaines. Poly-hT-ethyleneglycine (1), po-ly(N-3-sulfopropyl)-W-methacryloyloxyethyl-Nd -dimethylammonium betaine) (2) and poly[(2-methacryloyloxyethyl-2-(trimethylammonioethyl-phosphate)] (3) are typical examples of this kind of polyampholyte ... [Pg.175]
