Metallurgy and Metal Phosphides

Many metal phosphides have properties in common with the binary compounds formed by metals with B, C, N and Si (which are themselves sometimes involved in metallurgical systems). 

The fields of application of metal phosphides can be divided into the following  

The effects of metal phosphides on properties of metals as engineering materials, which are dealt with in this chapter. In addition, metal phosphides are involved in some types of metal surface treatment (Section 12.7). 

Electrical applications such as semiconductors and nanomaterials, which are dealt with in Section 12.20. 

Miscellaneous applications which include, for example, sea flares (Section 12.16), rat poisons, catalysts, grain fumigants and so on.
