Metallomacrocycles, dinuclear

In a similar maimer, reactions of bis-(triethylphosphine)-M(II)-bis-triflates with bis-pyridine ligands provide access to dinuclear metallomacrocycles. The self-assembly of ligands based on a pyrrole framework possessing dithiocarbamate end groups when treated with zinc(II), nickel(II) or copper(II) afforded a series of neutral, dinuclear metallomacrocycles or trinuclear metallocryptands 45 <03DT603>. 

Generally a multidentate ligand is designed that upon binding of two copper(I) atoms and O2 assembles into a macrocyclic [Cu202]-complex (scheme 3a). Alternatively a preorganized dinuclear metallomacrocycle can reversibly bind O2 (scheme 3b).
