Metal-to-Nitride Structural Switching

This switch is accompanied by an increase of a few percent in the distance between the metal atoms, as shown in Table 10.4. In this table, the metal-to-metal (M-M) atomic spacings of the pure metals of Group IV and [Pg.172]

V are compared with their M-M spacings within their mononitride structures. The increase is generally more pronounced for the nitrides of Group [Pg.172]

V than for those of Group IV. This factor influences the metallic bonding as reviewed in the following section. However this increase is not as large as that of carbides (see Table 3.5 of Ch. 3). [Pg.172]
