Mer geometry

Both ligand classes are modelled on long established ligands, the pincer ligands with amino, phosphane or ether sidechains on a pyridine or benzene base for the mer geometry [64-66] and the scorpionate ligands (tris-pyrazolylborates) for the fac geometry [67-69].

Scheme 4.111. It has a Cj-symmetric cage framework with Hg...Hg separations along the edges varying in a narrow range of 11.64-12.23 A. Two types of metal coordination geometry are present in this framework one of Hg ions has a/ac-tris-chelate geometry, when the three others have a mer-geometry. All metal centers have the same optical configuration (all A or all A) with both enantiomers present in the unit cell. Intramolecular stacking interactions are reported in [108] to be an important feature of 660.
