Meditation posture

The ability to relax at will is essential for occult work. All meditations should be preceded by relaxation. At first, it may take some time, but practice will increase your skill. Relaxation makes your body a clear channel, transparent to the in-flowing light, and so enabling energy to flow unimpeded. When seated in the meditation posture, focus first upon your feet. Tense the muscles of both feet for about four seconds, then allow them to relax. [Pg.18]

The first step, relaxation, involved achieving not only deep physical relaxation but also deep mental relaxation. The induction of such a relaxed state often required a considerable length of time, especially in the beginning it was not unusual for percipients to spend five to ten minutes on this step alone, even after they had learned it well. Modem systematic techniques for relaxing the body, such as Jacobson s progressive relaxation [38], autogenic training [119], or biofeedback procedures would probably work well. Comfortable meditative postures would probably also be effective. [Pg.61]

Since the meditator is sitting absolutely still, his muscular subsystem similarly has little to do beyond postural maintenance. This further reduces loading stabilization. Thus many sources of activity that maintain ordinary d-SoC fade out when the meditative posture is assumed. [Pg.82]

Confusion results when the word meditation is used to describe many different things, it is probably too late to prevent sloppy usage, but ideally, the phrase tried to meditate means that the meditater attempted to carry out the instructions but was not successful at concentrating or holding the posture. The phrase did meditate means the meditater felt he was relatively successful in following the instructions, event though no meditative state developed. The phrase reached a meditative state means that the meditater actually did so. [Pg.84]

Opening meditation is usually practiced in the same sort of posture as concentrative meditation, so all the effects of posture on disrupting the b-Soc are similar. [Pg.85]

Check your posture to make sure you re comfortable. If you need to shift your body at any point, go ahead, rather than letting discomfort interfere with your meditation. [Pg.232]
