Mechanistic Overview

Whereas the demonstration of the ability of allyltin reagents to undergo homolytic cleavage of the carbon-tin bond goes back to the early 1970s ]280], it was only ten years later that Keck and Yates evidenced the synthetic potential of this reaction [Pg.227]

The addition of carbon radicals to allylstannane is not severely affected by their nature, whenever the electrophilic radicals attack the allyltin Jt bond more rapidly than nucleophilic alkyl radicals [286], thus authorizing a wide range of substrates to react. As a consequence, the radical allylic transfer was applied to the synthesis of complex structures such as /3-lactams [287], steroids [288], alkaloids [289] or [Pg.228]

A variety of double bonds give reactions corresponding to the pattern of the ene reaction. Those that have been studied from a mechanistic and synthetic perspective include alkenes, aldehydes and ketones, imines and iminium ions, triazoline-2,5-diones, nitroso compounds, and singlet oxygen, 10=0. After a mechanistic overview of the reaction, we concentrate on the carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions. The important and well-studied reaction with 10=0 is discussed in Section 12.3.2. [Pg.869]
