During the next 17 years, a few scattered examples were reported of naturally-occurring polyacetylenes (compounds with conjugated triple bonds) lachno-phyllum ester (III) (Williams et al., 1935), isanic acid (IV) (Steger and van Loon, 1937,1940 Castille, 1940,1941) and matricaria ester (V) (Sorensen and Stene, 1941)2.
