In the second stage, the materials selection information on the varions templates is entered on a simplified process flow diagram (PFD), creating a MSD. The MSD is then reviewed for consistency. A checklist determines if factors snch as excessive pressnre drop mnst be addressed. 

Depending upon the specific aspects of a facility s processes and the materials, intermediates, and products involved, the PSSR checklist questions should be customized to match those aspects. Consider selecting them in a way that guides the PSSR team to analyze the known hazards and associated risks for the total site. This chapter provides guidelines that may assist in building a database of standard questions to be considered for every complex PSSR.
