Mass migration

The most obvious cause of undemutrition is prolonged starvation, which is most dramatic in parts of the world where war, drought or other disasters have brought about failed harvests or mass migration. 

Mass migration of population to cities in developing countries leads to over-exploitation of water resources and, as a result, to environmental conditions unfavorable for human health. 

This chapter consists of three sections, following this introduction. The first section summarizes the photocontrol of liquid motion by self-assembled adsorbed Az monolayers (Section 15.2). The second section (Section 15.3) introduces controls of molecular organizations of polymer chains triggered by Langrauir-Blodgett-Kuhn (LBK) monolayers of an Az polymer The final section (Section 15.4) describe the motional function of Az layers themselves, the photoinduced deformation of monolayers, and mass migration of Az polymer film systems. The events discussed in these three parts are illustrated in Figure 15.1. 

Ehrlich had not, however, contemplated drug resistance, including the recent appearance of drug-resistant tuberculosis (16,17), nor presumably had he contemplated the dual impact of mass migrations and habitat destruction on the emergence of new and lethal infections including Lassa rift valley, Ross River, Crimean-Congo and HI viruses (18). 

The ability of cancer cells to detach from the primary tumor mass, migrate through surrounding tissues toward blood vessels or lymphatic vessels, and create secondary lesions, involves the loss of homotypic cell-cell adhesion and cytoskeletal remodeling. Several secreted proteins and adhesion molecules and their downstream (lipid and tyrosine) kinases play an important role.
