When a woman is recalled because of an abnormal screening mammogram, or there is a palpable lump or a suspicious physical finding, she is given a diagnostic exam. Here, specialized X-ray views are taken and these are often supplemented with ultrasound and sometimes, MRI. As these three modalities capture different information about the breast, it can be difficult to determine the correspondence between the modalities. That is, if there is more than one lesion in any of the modalities, it may not be trivial to determine which of the multiple lesions correspond to the same lesion on different modahties. [Pg.101]
