Magnesium picrate

Whistling squibs are made with magnesium picrate. The mixture is prepared according to the formula of the inventor, Weiffenbach, of Stuttgart. T%vo hundred grams of picric acid and 800 g. of nitre are dissolved in hot water, and saturated with 30 g. of magnesium carbonate, and the precipitated crystals then dried. [Pg.471]

Benzyl a-naphthyl selenide, (C6H5.CH2)Se(C10H7).2—This selenide is produced when the complex obtained from magnesium a-naphthyl bromide and metallic selenium is treated with benzyl chloride. It forms small colourless prisms from alcohol, M.pt. 68° to 69° C. It yields a picrate, which separates from ether in orange-red needles, M.pt. 118° C. [Pg.25]

Tri-m-xylyl tellurium iodide, [(CH3)2C6H3]3TeI, from m-bromo-xylene, magnesium and tellurium tetrachloride in ether, subsequently treating the product with potassium iodide, crystallises from water as colourless needles, softening at 205° C. and melting at 208° to 209° C., soluble in chloroform or hot alcohol. The picrate separates as needles, sintering at 134° C., M.pt. 138° to 139° C. [Pg.207]

Tessier introduced the use of cryolite (AlNaaF ) for the yellow coloring of stars, lances, and Bengal lights. In his second edition he includes a chapter on the small pyrotechnic pieces which are knonm as Japanese fireworks, giving formulas for them, and another on the picrates, which he studied extensively. The picrates of sodium, potassium, and ammonium crystallize in the anhydrous condition. Those of barium, strontium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and copper are hygroscopic and contain considerable water of crystallization which makes them unfit for use in pyrotechnic compositions. Lead picrate, with 1 H3O, detonates... [Pg.350]

C12H4CaNsOi4 5 H2O, Calcium picrate pentahydrate, 45B, 73 C12H8AUKN4, Potassium dicyanoaurate(I) 2,2 -bipyridyl, 46B, 228 Cl2H12MgN20e, Magnesium picolinate dihydrate, 39B, 516 Cl2H1sNa04, (1-Phenylbutane-1,3-dionato)(ethylene glycol)sodium,... [Pg.354]

In the course of work on the tricyclic system of physostigmine, Hoshino and Kobayashi started with 5-ethoxyindolyl- -ethylamine, which was treated with magnesium ethyl iodide and the product heated with methyl iodide in benzene. From the resulting mixture a supposed dl-dinoreserethole (XXVIII) was isolated. It had m.p. 35-9°, b.p, 145-150°/ 1 mm. gave a picrate, m.p. 170-1°, and on treatment with methyl iodide was presumed to yield dl- noreserethole hydriodide and dZ-methylesere-thole, m.p. 80-1°, b.p. l84-5°/4 mm., which gave a methopicrate. [Pg.697]
