The catalysts were also characterized with P magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR) spectra (Fig. 17.2) which showed that they were all mixtures of several heteropolyphosphotungstate species. 

In this chapter, we will present the results of an investigation into the effects of a polymeric cationic compound upon the direction of the crystallization and the formation of a novel layer silicate type based on earlier work [11, 18-20]. The novel layer silicates were characterized by chemical and physical methods, especially by x-ray difrraction (XRD), high-resolution electron microscopy (HI M), and magic-angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR). 

Magic angle spinning-nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopy has become in the last ten years or so one of the most powerful techniques for the investigation of sohd acid catalysts [38,39].
