Lucid

In 1923. Lewis published a classic book (later reprinted by Dover Publications) titled Valence and the Structure of Atoms and Molecules. Here, in Lewis s characteristically lucid style, we find many of the basic principles of covalent bonding discussed in this chapter. Included are electron-dot structures, the octet rule, and the concept of electronegativity. Here too is the Lewis definition of acids and bases (Chapter 15). That same year, Lewis published with Merle Randall a text called Thermodynamics and the Free Energy of Chemical Substances. Today, a revised edition of that text is still used in graduate courses in chemistry. 

From the time of Dalton the history of the atom has been a march of triumph. Wherever the concept of the atom was employed for the interpretation of observational measurements, it supplied lucid explanation conversely, such success became overwhelming evidence for the existence of the atom.

Trasatti14 16 has done a very thorough and lucid work in clarifying the concept of absolute electrode potentials in aqueous electrochemistry. He has pointed out that at least four different absolute, or single , electron potentials can be defined, depending on the choice of the reference state of electrons. 

Professor J.O M. Bockris who grasped from the very beginning the importance of electrochemical promotion and explained it in a truly lucid manner in his excellent monographs and books. 

Professor J. Haber who wrote a lucid article describing Electrochemical Promotion in his Annual Chemistry Report of the Royal Society in 1994. 

Thus, there is a great deal of substance to this book on the electrochemical promotion of catalysis. But the joy is that it has been set down in a very lucid way so that I seldom had to pause to scan a sentence a second time for meaning.

A surfactant was defined in Chapter 8 as an agent, soluble or dispersible in a liquid, which reduces the surface tension of the liquid [1]. It is helpful to visualise surfactant molecules as being composed of opposing solubility tendencies. Thus, those effective in aqueous media typically contain an oil-soluble hydrocarbon-based chain (the hydrophobe) and a smaller water-solubilising moiety which may or may not confer ionic character (the hydrophile). The limitations of space do not permit a comprehensive detailed treatment of the chemistry of surfactants.
