LPC for Nonspeech and Real-World Sounds

There are sounds other than speech that can be decomposed using the source/ filter model. Recall our struck coffee cup example from Chapter 4, where we [Pg.92]

While the original and resynthesized hammer/nail spectrograms differ somewhat, the perceptual quality of the resynthesis is quite good. Once analyzed and parameterized, the sound can be resynthesized with time scaling, pitch scaling, modifications on the filter parameters, etc. Finally, there is an approximate 30 1 compression ratio in coding the sound using LPC (the silence between the hammer strikes helps a lot). [Pg.94]
