LOX-Mediated Reactions and Metabolites

The enzyme 5-LOX is expressed predominantly in human leukocytes (eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, etc.) and can be found in both the cytoplasm and the nucleus depending on the cell type (Woods et al. 1995 Luo et al. 2003 Brock 2005). 

5-HETE is a 5-LOX-derived AA metabolite, considered to be pro-inflammatory. It was found to be elevated in patients with chronic kidney disease (Maaloe et al. 2011)
