Lowary, Todd

Sincere thanks are expressed to Professors Stephen Angyal and J. Grant Buchanan for their many years of advice and support as members of the Board of Advisors. Welcomed as a new member of the Board is Professor Todd Lowary. [Pg.3]

Todd Lowary and coworkers have shown that activation of 2,3-anhydro-thiogly-cosides with Cu(OTf)2 results in the formation of 1,2-trany-glycosides (Scheme4.5c). [Pg.102]

Stereocontrolled formation of P-Ara/ is intrinsically problematic because of its 1,2-cis, nonaxial nature [173], In order to solve this, several innovative methods have been developed. Of particular note were approaches based on SN2-type displacement of a-triflates derived from 2,3-anhydro-modified and carboxybenzyl-substituted donors, which were developed by Todd Lowary [174, 175] and by Kwan Soo Kim [176], respectively. Alternatively, certain cyclic protections gave promising results by virtue of their abilities to bring conformational constrain to arabinofuranosyl donors. For instance, bicyclic donors such as those protected with 3,5-O-di-tert-butylsilylidene (DTBS) [177-179], 3,5-0-tetraisopropyldisiloxanylidene (TIPDS)... [Pg.383]

In the previous edition of this book, Todd Lowary exhaustively reviewed what was known to date about the structure, function and bios)uithesis of the mycobacterial cell wall polysaccharides, as well as chemical syntheses of substrates and inhibitors for the biosynthetic enzymes [21]. Cell wall biosynthesis remains better studied in mycobacteria than in the other mycolata because of the obvious medical significance of these bacteria. The purpose of this section is therefore to highlight more recent developments in the study of the mycobacterial cell wall, and to describe some of the variation in cell wall stmcture seen among different genera within the mycolata. [Pg.1571]

Todd Lowary (Chapter 5) focuses on two major polysaccharides containing d-arabinofuranose, namely, arabinogalactan and lipoarabinomannan, in a quest to identify new antibiotics. These glycopol5mers are found as important components of the cell wall of the Actinomycete family. Although there is now an understanding of the... [Pg.687]

Work in these laboratories is supported by die UK BBSRC and EPSRC, and the Weston Foundation. We gratefolly acknowledge Colin MacDonald (NMR spectroscopy), David Hughes (X-ray crystallography) and the EPSRC Mass Spectrometry Service Centre, Swansea for invaluable assistance. Keith Roberts, Todd Lowary and Mike Gidley are thanked for stimulating discussions. [Pg.48]
