Despite the interest in single-source precursors, there are very few commercial applications that use them however, it seems likely that such compounds will eventually be used for large-scale coverage applications, or in special cases where low-temperature growth is needed and where large areas need to be covered at relatively low cost. 

The invention of US-A-3902924 is concerned with low temperature growth of mercury cadmium telluride layers on insulating substrates by liquid phase epitaxy. Infrared detectors are fabricated to assist with the evaluation of the grown layers. 

Low temperature growth has been attempted in many forms such as plasma-CVD, low pressure-CVD etc. [57,80,84,85,91,103,106,110,118,125,142,151]. Heterojunction devices are also reported using those low temperature growth methods [38,57,80,98,104].
