Literature of Analytical Separations

The coverage of separation techniques in many important textbooks in chemical analysis is largely limited to chromatography (e.g., refs. 9, 12, 13). While chromatography is of central importance in analysis, the omission of modern electrophoretic (both gel and capillary) and field-flow fractionation techniques leaves a large void in the description of separative capabilities, particularly in the biochemical and macromolecular realm. 

The listings of most science libraries are replete with material from the specialized literature on separations, but the discipline of separations, when considered as a whole science, is rather poorly developed. Some of the best sources are those noted above and some to be cited later in this book.
