Liposomal iron-porphyrin

To construct a hydrophobic environment in aqueous solution, it is possible to use an assembly such as a phospholipid liposome. A hydrophobic environment to retard the proton-driven oxidation [see Eq. (4)] is constructed around iron-porphyrin in aqueous media by embedding it in a phospholipid bilayer (Fig. 2) [16]. Furthermore, the iron—porphyrin is molecularly dispersed in the phospholipid bilayer, and the porphyrin plane is oriented parallel to the bilayer, which prevents the oxidation by a jx-dioxo dimer [see Eq. (3)]. [Pg.181]

A sterically modified and amphiphilic iron-porphyrin derivative was synthesized to improve the compatibility of the iron-porphyrin with the phospholipid bilayer of the liposome. Structure (5) represents a lipid derivative of iron-porphyrin the iron-porphyrin has four alkanephosphocholine... [Pg.181]

Transmembrane reduction of Fe(CN)6 by ITSAH2 across PC liposomes is mediated by lipophilic iron and manganese porphyrins [121]. The relative rates increased with increasing heme lipophilicity, and were not influenced by adding... [Pg.2987]
