Line doublet

All the alkali metals have characteristic flame colorations due to the ready excitation of the outermost electron, and this is the basis of their analytical determination by flame photometry or atomic absorption spectroscopy. The colours and principal emission (or absorption) wavelengths, X, are given below but it should be noted that these lines do not all refer to the same transition for example, the Na D-line doublet at 589.0, 589.6 nm arises from the 3s — 3p transition in Na atoms formed by reduction of Na+ in the flame, whereas the red line for lithium is associated with the short-lived species LiOH. [Pg.75]

The NMR signals consisting of multiple lines are characterized by the number of lines doublet (two), triplet (three), quartet (four), and so on. A signal with just one line is a singlet. A signal with an unspecified number of lines is a multiplet. [Pg.125]

Assume for the moment that all three coupling constants in our AMX system are positive, and focus your attention on the A and M multiplets. Lines A and A2 correspond to the up orientation of nucleus X, while lines A3 and A4 correspond to the down orientation of X. Similarly, lines M, and M2 correspond to the up orientation of nucleus X, while lines M3 and M4 correspond to the down orientation. We describe this situation by saying that the A -A2 doublet is connected (via the similar spin state of nucleus X) with the M,-M2 doublet, and the A3-A4 doublet is connected with the M3-M4 doublet. These connections are shown below the spectrum. If we simultaneously saturate only lines A and A2 (by focusing v2 between them and carefully adjusting its power), only the connected lines (doublet Mj-M2) will collapse to a singlet. Lines M3 and M4 would remain intact. [Pg.201]

A7Z can be determined by measuring the practical resolution of the monochromator from the deconvolution of the two components of the Hg 313.1 nm line doublet and subtraction of the contributions of the diffraction slit width (so = 7 f/W) and the entrance slit width (se). The contribution of the natural width of the Hg lines can be neglected, as it is very low in the case of a hollow cathode lamp. [Pg.198]

The crystal structure of YF3 at room temperature is Pnma, with Y ions in sites of Cs symmetry (Wyckoff, 1%4). A higher temperature hexagonal form has also been observed (Sobolev and Fedorov, 1973). The index of refraction is 1.550 at the sodium D line doublet (X = 0.589 p,m) and the dielectric constant is 10.0 at / = 760 kHz (Dulepov et al., 1976). The polarized infrared spectrum of YF3 has been obtained and the lattice vibrations have been analyzed and assigned to symmetry species (Rast et al., 1969). Electron-beam and ultraviolet excitation of rare-earth doped YF3 has determined the energy separation of the configurations 4f"" 5d and 4f" for several rare earths (Yang and DeLuca, 1976). [Pg.532]

For deuterium nuclei in LCs, the Zeeman and the quadrupolar interactions are by far the most dominant interacticais of the nuclei with their surroimdings. In such a case, a H-NMR spectrum is always symmetrical. Carbon may be a potential candidate for such reference, but it presents in coal in a fixed form and as a part of volatiles, making such normalization doubtful. Such conclusion is confirmed by the fact that C emission intensity is strongly influenced by volatiles quantity. Oxygen in coal also exists as component of organics and as different oxides of inorganic elements (Si, Al, Mg, Ca) and also may occur as results of air breakdown on the surface of the samples. From the other side, the contents of nitrogen N are usually low in coal and still the N(I) line doublet (744.2... [Pg.566]

It is obvious that the high degree of structural disorder in such a poorly crystalline system causes broad distributions of hyperfine parameters resulting in broad-lined doublets and sextets. At RT a broad doublet is obtained (Fig. 3.7) with average A in the range 0.7-0.9 mm/s. Though the spectra reflect in fact a broad... [Pg.107]

Figure 1. 35 GHz ESR spectra of -CFtCONHi at 290°K (upper) and 77 K (lower) in irradiated crystals of CFsCONH, The center line at 290°K separates into a resolved doublet of doublets at 77°K owing to the freezing out of the torsional oscillation of the CFg group. A, B, and C identify the Mi — 0, Mi = l,and aM, = 2 transitions, respectively. The large difference in heights of the low and high field A lines at 77°K relative to the central A line doublets is caused by an alternating line width effect caused by a rapid in-phase motion of the CF group above and below the CON plane. From Reference 5.
