Limit, short term ventilation

The 2-cyanoacryhc esters have sharp, pungent odors and are lacrimators, even at very low concentrations. These esters can be irritating to the nose and throat at concentrations as low as 3 ppm eye irritation is observed at levels of 5 ppm (13). The TLV for methyl 2-cyanoacrylate is 2 ppm and the short-term exposure limit is 4 ppm (14). Good ventilation when using the adhesives is essential. [Pg.178]

Alternative PPV equipment, designed and used for short-term PPV in non-lCU locations, but suitable for definitive mechanical ventilation during mass casualty events, should be considered. This equipment is available, less expensive, and more easily stockpiled than full feature mechanical ventilators. Alternative PPV equipment must be easy for non-critical care staff, with limited training and experience, to operate, as it is likely that they will be called on to help manage patients with respiratory failure in a mass casualty setting. Because it may also have to be used outside of an ICU, alternative PPV equipment must have appropriate alarm capabilities, battery power, and the ability to function with either high or low pressure oxygen sources. [Pg.455]

Observe normal precautions appropriate to the circumstances and quantity of material handled. Diethyl phthalate is irritant to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Protective clothing, eye protection, and nitrile gloves are recommended. Diethyl phthalate should be handled in a fume cupboard or a well-ventilated environment a respirator is recommended. In the UK, the long-term (8-hour TWA) exposure limit for diethyl phthalate is 5 mg/m. The short-term (15-minute) exposure limit is lOmg/m. ... [Pg.241]

Formaldehyde is listed as a suspected human carcinogen and has a 0.3 ppm short-term exposure limit (STEL). Fortunately this very low exposure limit can be met since the use of formaldehyde in chemical synthesis processes involve closed systems which minimize worker exposures. Laboratory use of formaldehyde solutions must be conducted in hoods with efficient ventilation. [Pg.120]
