Light guide panels

COC, previously three times the price of such competing optical resins as acrylic and PC, were pioneered in Japan for such optical applications as film and sheet for LCD. They have also made inroads into the market as light-guide panels for laptop compnters where resulting weight savings have justified the price premium. [Pg.109]

The production of flat-panel cathode ray tubes (CRTs) is essentially a fabrication issue. The basic principle of operation is the same as a standard CRT. Electrons are emitted from a hot cathode. These are guided by a magnetic field to the glass screen coated in a layer of phosphorescent material. Upon impact the energy of the electron is transferred to the phosphor and light is emitted. A regular pattern of red, green and blue phosphors creates a dense pattern of... [Pg.2]

A control panel should be laid out in an orderly fashion, where indieator lights are clearly labeled, colors correspond to the severity of the alarm, and the most important information is presented at the top of the center of view. Attention shonld conform to the normal left-to-right reading pattern and the confignration shonld minimize confusion or misinterpretation. Poly(phenylene vinylene) (PPV) is another valuable conjugated polymer, as the synthetic process of PPV is simple and low cost. PPV possesses excellent photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties, as well as photovoltaic (PV) and nonlinear optical properties [57]. These properties have led to its being used in broad applications, in such areas as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and flat-panel displays and photonics applications such as wave-guiding and all-optical switching. [Pg.183]
