Lactobacillus pentoaceticus

Crude xylose syrup is rapidly fermented by certain microorganisms, for instance, Lactobacillus pentoaceticus n. sp., with the production of the above acids. The fermentation is almost quantitative, since 85 to 90 per cent of the xylose can be accounted for by the two acids. [Pg.105]
