Laboratory book including modem

Chapter 2 is dedicated to teaching basic laboratory techniques. To fully use this book you must take a quick guide into the modem lab, and learn a few examples of laboratory techniques. Laboratory techniques are an essential part of everyday chemistry. The most common laboratory techniques include extraction, recrystallization, and distillation. You will learn how to do these in this chapter. Other laboratory techniques include lab safety, glassware, and equipment. 

The Schwenz and Moore book called for inclusion of modem laboratory instrumentation and techniques, as well as modem research topics in the laboratory curriculum. Under the umbrella of modem instrumentation, the authors included experiments with lasers, mass spectrometers and cyclic voltammetry. In modem topics, computational chemistry, experiments with biological relevance, atmospheric chemistry and polymer chemistry were... 

The book was intended to be a selection of my research papers which in turn also presents the flavor of modem materials chemistry. I trust that I have succeeded, at least partly, in doing so. I realize that it is difficult to be up-to-date in a field like this since new materials, methods and phenomena are discovered constantly. Even as I write this preface, new results of vital importance have been obtained in my laboratory which cannot be included in this volume. I earnestly hope that the reader will find the papers in this volume interesting and informative, and representative of the subject. It has been a pleasure to see the subject grow in the last half a century, and to grow with it. I have no doubt that materials chemistry will continue to develop and unravel new horizons in the years to come.
