In December 1920 Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation came into being. As a holding company, it acquired a number of different companies, with different product lines. One of its acquisitions was the National Aniline and Chemical Company, with its core staff from the days of Cassella company. Thus, it too would benefit from German expertise. Of the major importers associated with the German firms, the importers for BASF steered the most conservative course. Adolf Kuttroff and Carl Pickhardt continued to sell German chemicals as long as they held any, whether from prewar stocks or the sporadic shipments that made it across the Atlantic early in the war. They purchased from American manufacturers and also obtained limited quantities of British dyes.
