Klamath Mountains

In addition to anthropogenic pollution, some serpentine soils derived from Fe and Mg-rich ultramafic rocks are enriched in Ni, Cr and Co. In North America, ultramafic rocks form two discontinuous bands along the east and west side of the continent. The largest area of ultramafic terrain is in the Klamath Mountains province of northern California and southern Oregon (Lee et al., 2001). Serpentinite is a metamorphic rock formed from low... [Pg.289]

The Sacramento Valley is a tectonically controlled basin bounded on the east by the Sierra Nevada, on the west by the Coast Ranges, and on the north by the Klamath Mountains. The alluvium of the valley reflects inputs from these bounding... [Pg.169]

Soil with elevated content of these elements occurs along the Sacramento River in both levee and adjacent flood basin settings. We interpret that transport of sediment impacted by large metal sulfide mines located in the Klamath Mountains at the north end of the Valley has caused this pattern. [Pg.171]

No subspecies or varieties are recognized for western white pine. Nonetheless, populations in the Sierra Nevada, Klamath and Warner mountains in the southern portion of its range have been observed to differ substantially from those farther north (Steinhoff et ah, 1983). [Pg.40]
