The unusual 3,7-anhydro-octofuranosyluronic acid nucleosides (412) have been isolated from Streptomyces cacaoi var. asoensis. Oxidation of either guanosine or 7-j8-D-ribofuranosyltheophylline afforded the corresponding 5 -carboxy derivatives, and related uridine derivatives were obtained when

HMPT at room temperature to give the 3, 4 -unsaturated nucleoside. Details of the formation of saccharinic acid nucleosides from 2, 3 -diketo-nucleosides have appeared (c/. Vol. 8, p. 151).
