Blood COHb measurements have been used to monitor exposure of populations to atmospheric CO which also functions as a measure of air pollution using this approach. New Hampshire, Vermont, and the eity of St Louis, Missouri were found to have blood COHb levels in the range 1 to 1.5% in the early 1970s (Davis and Ganter, 1974 Kahn et al, 1974).

August Komendant (1906-1992), engineer and architect, collaborated with the great theorist and infiuentiai architectural thinker Louis Kahn (1901-1974), taking the ideas of Buckminster Fuiier (see page 178) into mainstream architecture. An ideal of a modern architecture deeply informed by structural principles and servicing strategy found expression in a series of their projects.
