In the Jimmy Member, in a strata-bound setting at the boundary above the clastic Manjeri sediment and before the eruption of the volcanic rocks of the Reliance Fm, the isotopic and textural evidence and C abundance implies that a non-photosynthetic bacterial mat grew, supported by a complex sulphur cycle, and by fermentation of organic debris, methanogenesis and methanotrophy.
