Jathropa multifida

Kosasi et al. isolated a high molecular weight proanthocyanidin with catechin or epicatechin as the building unit from latex of Jathropa multifida L. (Euphor-... [Pg.147]

Guided by the complement activity two phloroglucinol derivatives, multifidol (34) (or (2-methylbutyryl)phloroglucinol) and multifidol glucoside (35) were isolated from the latex of Jathropa multifida L. (Euphorbiaceae) [24]. Both compounds inhibited the classical pathway of complement. Multifidol affected a practically complete inhibition at a concentration of 298 xM multifidol glucoside showed 100% inhibition at a much higher concentration, i.e. 1.3 xM. [Pg.148]

In adition to some phenolic compounds with complement-inhibitory activity discussed in previous sections, the latex of Jathropa multifida L. (Euphorbiaceae) also contained two cyclic peptides with complement activity, labaditin (59) (a decapep-tide) and biobollein (60) (a nonapeptide). These peptides inhibited the classical activation pathway of complement. In mechanistic studies an apparent inactivation of Cl was demonstrated [36]. Curacycline A (61), a cyclic octapeptide isolated from the latex of Jathropa curcas L. (Euphorbiaceae), also displayed an inhibitory activity on the classical pathway, but to a lesser degree than labaditin and biobollein [37]. [Pg.154]
