Japan, Toyota FCVs

Toyota Motor Corporation is one of many major automakers that has built and is currently field testing a small handful of FCVs. As discussed by Taiyo Kawai, from Toyota s headquarters in Japan, the company will continue to accelerate the research and development of FCV technologies and to test this technology in a growing fleet of demonstration vehicles. 

Toyota was the first automaker to release an FCV when it began leasing the FCHV in 2002. These vehicles were leased in very hmited (unreleased) numbers in Japan and the USA. In September 2008, Toyota began leasing the next generation FCHV-adv, but numbers of vehicles and costs have not been published [50].
